Who We Are
Established January 1, 1993
The North Ohio Garden Railway Society, was started by a group of garden railway enthusiasts who wanted to join the rewards of garden landscaping & model railroading. Over the years we have shared in community, commercial and personal involvement. Check out the video below and see what we’ve already done. We are an organization of men, women and young people interested in creating and maintaining the pleasure, beauty and skill of gardening in concert with G-scale model railroading. We share our knowledge, support & resources with members and other organizations looking to create a model railroad environment. Members of all ages are welcome and we encourage even those who don't have a train setup to become a member. We work as a team. People of all walks and interests make up our group.
We communicate through our website, email and regular meetings at various locations across Northern Ohio. This includes sites of interest as well as members’ homes. There, we conduct group business, plan events and build projects. Modeling resources, including materials, expertise and a helping hand, is provided to our members. Conversation, food and friendship abound. For members who build from scratch, NOGRS provides significant discounts on material and a wealth of knowledge on “How-to”.
A Brief Overview of What We Do
Because modeling involves so many aspects and skills, we do it all… planning & research, laying track and ballast, carpentry, electrical setup, wiring and control, creating buildings and landscapes, testing and repair, purchasing, publishing & teaching, painting & placing the smallest of details in a layout, whether it’s a member’s or in maintaining public displays. No detail is too small and the work carries on. Just as a matter of course, there probably isn’t a member who has yet “finished” their layout. You may have already seen our work. We’ve built setups for commercial venues and other public displays such as conservatories, retirement communities, retail venues and non-profit organizations. We’ve also worked with those who want to further the wishes of kids who dream. Below is a video highlighting what we’ve done over the past couple of years.
